LINCOLN SQUARE — Make the most of your weekend, whether it's catching a parade or honoring veterans.

Gene's Sausage Shop, 4750 N. Lincoln Ave., is turning five and is celebrating the milestone with a tasting extravaganza. The fun kicks off at 4 p.m. on Friday with a cheese tasting and continues Saturday with samplings of wines, liqueurs, preserves, butters and Boar's Head meats, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festivities wrap up Sunday with an array of local craft beers on tap, plus complimentary snacks and giveaways.

Let Them Eat Chocolate hosts comedians Bridget Clymore, Madge Jablonski and guests at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 5306 N. Damen Ave. Clymore describes her brand of funny as honest, raunchy, quick and fearless. Madge Jablonski is a character created by Ruth Nadolny in the tradition of Ruth Buzzie.

In advance of Veterans Day, the Mayfair Veterans Committee will host the 13th annual Salute to American Heroes, 1:30 p.m., Sunday, at the Mayfair Veterans Memorial (Lawrence and Keeler avenues). The event honors not only veterans but educators, police officers and firefighters.

Chicago's German community keeps the tradition of Laternenfest alive with a lantern parade on Sunday. Look for youngsters bearing handmade lanterns to emerge from DANK Haus, 4740 N. Western Ave., at dusk.
