CHICAGO — The BoDeans are set to play an under-the-radar show tonight at The Vic to raise money to fund a journalism scholarship memorializing the late war correspondent James Foley, who was brutally assassinated while reporting in Syria.

The benefit — which aims to raise $25,000 for the James Foley Scholarship at the late reporter's alma mater, Marquette University — was organized in a rush by the Foley's college friends with the help of Vinny Michalesko, lead singer of The Predictors, which is set to open the show along with the band Hello Dave.

“We came up with the idea to do a concert and put word out on social media. The BoDeans and Hello Dave responded quickly and we put it together,” Michalesko said.

Due to contractual obligations, the BoDeans were not allowed to promote their appearance, but that wasn’t going to derail the concert, Michalesko said.

“We decided to take a chance and figured if we could go grassroots and sell 500 to 700 tickets we’d roll the dice,” he said. “And it looks like we’re going to surpass our goal to net $25,000 with more than 700 tickets sold."

Half-price tickets are still available for the show, which starts at 7 p.m. tonight, on The Vic website if you use the code “Believe.”
