LINCOLN SQUARE — It's officially "indoor season" in Chicago, but that doesn't mean there's no reason to go out.

The city's storytelling scene is one of the liveliest in the U.S., with Lincoln Square and North Center among the neighborhoods hosting a number of monthly series.

Is This a Thing?: This month's storytelling theme is "Sharing Is Caring," with performances expected from Jamie Bliss, Elena Colas, David Lipowski, Julie Marchiano, Lisa Scott and Kendra Stevens. 7 p.m., Nov. 10 (second Monday of every month), O'Shaughnessy's Public House, 4557 N. Ravenswood Ave. Free.

This Much Is True: November's special edition of the series will feature visiting performers from across the country in conjunction with the National Association of Black Storytellers annual conference, being held in Chicago. 7:30 p.m., Nov. 11 (second Tuesday of every month), Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistro, 3905 N. Lincoln Ave. Free.

Essay Fiesta: The storytelling series is turning five and celebrating the milestone with a special anniversary show featuring live music from Funky Hot Grits and a lineup of old friends, including Essay Fiesta co-founder Keith Ecker, and new faces. 7 p.m., Nov. 17, The Book Cellar, 4736 N. Lincoln Ave. Free, with donations accepted on behalf of 826CHI.

The Pungent Parlour: A rotating cast of six to seven writers present short essays and works of fiction. 8:30 p.m., doors open at 8 p.m., Nov. 18, Black Rock Pub, 3614 N. Damen Ave.

Louder Than a Mom: The focus is on "depressing, shocking, miserable, vulgar, hilarious" family stories. The format: ten 5-minute stories. November's theme is "I Am My Mother/Father." Interested in participating? Submit stories to louderthanamom@gmail.com. 8 p.m., Nov. 24, Martyr's, 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. $8.

The Moth StorySLAM: This month's theme is "Accident." Got a story to tell on the topic? Sign up a half-hour before the show starts and performers' names are drawn from a hat. Storytellers are scored by a team of judges, with a winner chosen at the end of the night. 8 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m., Nov. 25, Martyr's, 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. Tickets are $8 at the door; a limited number of advance tickets are sold for $16.
