GLADSTONE PARK — Volunteers are needed to help spruce up the area around a Metra station as part of a citywide cleanup event.

Ald. John Arena (45th) will host a cleanup event from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Gladstone Park Metra Station, Austin Avenue and Northwest Highway.

For two decades, city officials and local organizations have organized a fall cleanup day to beautify local communities by raking up leaves and cleaning up debris. The work helps prepare for winter by clearing storm drains before the first snow fall.

Arena, who is running for re-election, said residents are encouraged to organize cleanup events of their own. The city will provide rakes, shovels, brooms and garbage bags, Arena said.
