HYDE PARK — The Hyde Park Community Players open a three-week run of Tom Stoppard’s “Arcadia” on Nov. 8.
The community theater group will perform the tragic comedy about life in an English country house viewed through two contemporary scholars looking back on the events.
The play opens at 8 p.m. Nov. 8 at the University Church, 5655 S. University Ave., with 3 and 8 p.m. shows every Saturday and 3 p.m. shows every Sunday through Nov. 23.
The play was first performed in 1993 and addresses themes of order versus disorder, how the past is an interpretation made from the present and the limits of certainty.
“The first time I read these scenes, my heart-strings were immediately tugged by Thomasina’s speech mourning the loss of the Great Library of Alexandria — how does that loss still resonate so down the millennia?” Renata McAdams, who plays a Lady Thomasina Coverly, wrote about the Hyde Park production.
Tickets are $10 in advance through hydeparkcommunityplayers.org or $12 at the door.
