UKRANIAN VILLAGE — No one was hurt after a relatively minor garage fire in the 2500 block of W. Iowa Street, but a commander on scene said it "could have been a lot worse."
The Chicago Fire Department commander said that between "six and eight" oxygen canisters were inside the garage, and that they acted quickly to avoid any potential explosions.
Fire and police officials responded to smoke pouring into the alley between West Iowa and West Walton Streets aromd 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire was out in minutes.
Officials say they still haven't reached the homeowner, and did not elaborate on the size of the oxygen containers. Responders remained on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
