HYDE PARK — The Invisible Institute will host a community forum on University of Chicago Police Department’s record on transparency on Wednesday.

Journalist Jamie Kalven, who in August won a seven-year fight for more transparency about complaints against officers in the Chicago Police Department, will lead the conversation starting at 7 p.m. at Experimental Station, 6100 S. Blackstone Ave.

Over the last year, the university's 100-officer private force has faced criticism for pursuing expanded authority while operating outside of the oversight that constrains the Chicago Police Department.

Residents within the university police’s patrol area from 39th to 60th streets and Lake Shore Drive to Cottage Grove Avenue are invited to come to discuss the positives and negatives of the extra police presence.
