HYDE PARK — Illinois Institute of Technology Provost Alan Cramb was promoted to president of the university on Friday.
“Alan has been instrumental in moving the university to a new level of academic excellence over the past six years,” said Bud Wendorf, chairman of the board.
Cramb will be the ninth president of the university, succeeding John Anderson, who will step down on Aug. 1.
Cramb joined IIT as provost and a professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2008. Previously, he was dean of engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
The IIT Board of Trustees will now begin a search for a new provost.
