IRVING PARK — It's your last chance to buy produce the old-fashioned way — straight from the grower — at this weekend's farmers markets in Horner and Independence Parks.

The Horner Park farmers market closes out its inaugural year from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at 2741 W. Montrose Ave.

Vendors include M's Organic Farm, Mint Creek Farm, Noffke Family Farms and Global Gardens Refugee Training Farm. Non-fruit and veggie purveyors include Salted Caramel, Defloured gluten-free bakery, La Pane bread and brü coffeeworks.

Bill Reedy's Smokin' Cattails will provide live music during the final market, just as the band opened the market back in July.

The Independence Park farmers market wraps up its 10th season from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at 3945 N. Springfield Ave.

In addition to hosting more than 30 vendors selling everything from organic meat to handmade chemical-free soaps, the market organizers have planned a few special activities.

Kids of all ages are invited to learn how to make a candy-filled witch's broom during a free craft class from 10 a.m.-noon.

Staff from the Portage Restaurant will be on hand to offer cooking demonstrations, and the Indy Park Jammers will entertain market-goers with their bluegrass tunes.

For those suffering acute symptoms of market withdrawal, we offer this video from Horner Park: summer, just a click away.
