Citywide Shootings Kill Two, At Least Eight Others Wounded

CHICAGO — Two men were killed and at least eight people were hurt in shootings across the city since Friday evening.

Around 1:10 a.m. Saturday, four people were shot after a fight broke out at a West Garfield Park party. One of them, a 20-year-old man, died from his injuries at the hospital.

Earlier around 10:50 p.m. Friday, another 20-year-old man was killed in a Gresham shooting. A 16-year-old boy was also wounded by gunfire.

• The most recent non-fatal shooting happened at about 12:30 Saturday afternoon when a male juvenile was shot in the foot in the 11900 block of South Wentworth Avenue, police said. The boy, whose exact age was unknown, also suffered a graze wound to the torso, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

• Around 12:15 a.m. Saturday in Logan Square.

A man, 33, was standing on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of North Drake Avenue when a white sedan drove by and someone inside opened fire, striking him in his abdomen, left thigh and right knee, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman. 

A friend initially took him to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, but he was transferred to Stroger Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Alfaro said.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.

• Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, a 44-year-old man was shot in East Garfield Park.

Someone came up to the man in the 500 block of North Monticello Avenue, took out a handgun and fired shots, striking the man in his left hand, Alfaro said.

He is in stable condition after a friend took him to Rush University Medical Center, Alfaro said.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.

• Earlier around 7:15 p.m., a man, 31, was walking in the 7000 block of South State Street in Park Manor when someone in a group began firing shots, Alfaro said.

He suffered from a gunshot wound in his arm, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he is in stable condition, Alfaro said.

Police said the victim is a documented gang member.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.
