UPTOWN — Ald. James Cappleman (46th) is encouraging Uptown residents to attend Tuesday night's CAPS meeting at Truman College to discuss public safety after a shooting Friday night left a 34-year-old man wounded.

The 19th District Caps meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in Truman College's cafeteria.

"We are waiting to hear back from police in regards to the shooting investigation," said Cappleman's chief of staff Tressa Feher. "But we are urging residents to come out to the meeting to discuss and promote public safety and how the community can get involved."

According to police, the shooting occurred on the 4400 block of North Clifton Avenue on Friday at 11:30 p.m.

A 34-year-old man was walking in an alley when he was approached by two men, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

He was shot in the hand, upper leg and shoulder and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in good condition, said Lemmon.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, which police said might be gang-related.

Residents said they were on alert after Friday's shooting.

"It's terrible, I don't know how it's not all over the news," said Mary Collins. "But then again there's so many shootings that happen all over the city every day."

Collins, who moved into the neighborhood in September, said she went outside after she heard six shots. She saw the victim's girlfriend screaming for help and a man lying in the alley in a pool of blood.

"The girlfriend was screaming, 'They shot the wrong guy!'" Collins said.

Other residents were not surprised by Friday's shooting and others that have happened just outside their apartment complex.

"It's scary, but it's something I'm used to," said Vivian Nguyen, a lifelong resident of Uptown who also heard the shots fired Friday night. "It sounds kind of callous of me to say, but this kind of thing happens all the time in this neighborhood. I'm used to it."

Marcus Hunter, an Uptown resident and Truman college student, echoed Nguyen's sentiments.

"Most of the kids I went to grammar school are either dead or locked up. It's getting hectic," Hunter said. "The one difference, it's been close friends who are being killed."

Hunter pointed to his friend Chris McGhee, who was shot and killed last month just blocks away from Friday night's shooting.

Daniel and Nora Fitzgerald were shocked to hear about Friday's shooting just blocks away from where McGhee, their godson, was gunned down.

"It's extreme; no one can do anything about it," said Daniel Fitzgerald.

Said Nora Fitzgerald: "It's bad. We just buried our godson. Police aren't doing enough to catch the people who are doing this."
