One Dead, Three Others Wounded in West Garfield Park Shooting

CHICAGO — One man was killed and three others were hurt, two critically, in a West Garfield Park shooting early Saturday.

Around 3 a.m., the men, ages 20, 23, 22 and 44, were in a car in the 4400 block of West Van Buren Street when someone opened fire, striking the 20-year-old in his face, the 23-year-old in his upper back, the 22-year-old in his leg and the 44-year-old in his buttocks, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman, citing preliminary information.

The 20-year-old victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Estrada said.

The man was identified as Hezekiah Harper-Bey, accordign to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The 23-year-old was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, while the 22-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital. Both are in critical condition, Estrada said.

The 44-year-old's condition had stabilized after being taken to Stroger Hospital, he added.

No other information surrounding this incident was immediately available.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.
