HUMBOLDT PARK — The inaugural event for a Chicago Artists Month writers group kicks off Sunday in Humboldt Park.

Trespassing: Our Voices, Our Stories” is a Chicago writers group made up of diverse writers of color from Chicago's North, South and West sides. Attendees will hear readings of multi-genre work, participate in a visual art project and dance to cross-genre music.

Organizers hope the family-friendly afternoon will forge connections between Chicagoans from all over the city in Humboldt Park from 1 to 4 p.m.

“As writers of color, the Chicago VONA Writers are always working to figure out borders: racial, ethnic, geographic, and literary,” according to organizers at Chicago Artists Month. "We chose to come together as a group from different parts of the city (Hyde Park to Rogers Park) to help us negotiate not only our writing, but our lives as Chicago writers.”

“We hope that this afternoon of artistic interaction will open up community and connection for others and help shift the way the audience views their own experiences as Chicagoans and where they might extend the perimeter of their own physical and mental boundaries.”
