Man Charged In Killing Elderly Man During Robbery: Police

CHICAGO — A man has been charged for murdering an elderly man in during a robbery late September. 

Samuel Higgins, 29, of the 900 block of East 84th Street, has been charged with one count murder and another count robbery, according to a police alert.

On September 25th around 4:55 a.m., Higgins knocked 88-year-old Arthur Hearn to the ground and went through his pockets while a woman he was with stood watch in the 8500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to police.

Hearn was initially taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said, but he died from his injuries on September 28th. 

Hearn, of the 8400 block of South Langley Avenue, was pronounced dead from cranial cerebral injuries at 5:50 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. His death was declared a homicide.

Higgins is due to appear in court Saturday.
