ROGERS PARK — The competition to design some of the neighborhood's new bike racks has been narrowed down to four final logo designs.

Residents can vote for their favorite from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Art Round Trip festival, Ald. Joe Moore (49th) said in an email to constituents Tuesday.

A panel of judges from the Rogers Park Arts Alliance and 49th Ward participatory budgeting team narrowed down 40 submissions from neighborhood artists.

The new logo would be cut into decorative racks located at high-traffic areas of the neighborhood.

In 2010, residents voted to spend $105,000 of Moore's 49th Ward discretionary budget on 15 artistic, multifunctional bike racks. But the city shot down the idea, citing safety and cost concerns.

So instead, Moore said, the money would be used to install nearly 100 bike racks, a few of them featuring the new logo.

"Several Chicago neighborhoods use custom logos on their bike racks to build community identity, improve the look of commercial streets, and add a little local creativity to an otherwise purely functional object on the public way," Moore said.

The artist with the winning logo design will be awarded $500.
