GRAND CROSSING — For the second consecutive year, a youth center will honor parents and caregivers for their family commitment.

The annual Parent and Caregivers’ Breakfast starts at 10 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Gary Comer Youth Center, which is also sponsoring the free event. A full breakfast prepared by the youth center's culinary team will be served and guest speakers include Dominique Jordan-Turner, president of the nonprofit Chicago Scholars.

Last year 125 people attended the event including some who were not parents, said Senyah Haynes, special Events and volunteer coordinator for the youth center. Haynes added that the event also allows the center to inform the community about their adult programs while honoring parents.

"As a youth-serving organization we understand the importance of the role families play in the development of our young people, so we like to take this moment to commend them for their hard work as they are often unsung heroes," Haynes said.

Attendees should RSVP by emailing Lisa Beavers at lbeavers@gcychome.org.
