ALBANY PARK — The public will get its first look at North Park University's $45 million Nancy and G. Timothy Johnson Center for Science and Community Life during grand opening and dedication events this weekend.

Named for Dr. Tim Johnson, former chief medical editor for ABC News, and his wife, Nancy — both North Park alums — the center will house classrooms and labs, including a cadaver lab, along with residence housing, university ministries and other student support services.

After a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, the building will be open for tours as part of a festival on the campus green. A community open house will also be held from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday.

Visitors can check out the labs — many of them boasting smart technology that interfaces with lab equipment at each student's work space — or relax around one of three fireplaces in the student lounge while noshing on grub from the onsite Einstein Bagels.

Construction of the Johnson Center incorporated a number of sustainable features, including a green roof, which will be studied as part of the environmental science major and chemistry major curriculum at North Park.

North Park University is at 3225 W. Foster Ave. For a map of the campus, click here.
