UPTOWN — A 60-year-old woman in Uptown suffered third-degree burns and was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday night after her husband allegedly doused her in rubbing alcohol and set her ablaze, according to police.

The woman was arguing with her 66-year-old spouse in the 4300 block of North Broadway about 9:15 p.m. when he poured the alcohol over the top of her head and then used a lighter to set her on fire, police said.

As of Monday morning, the woman was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital and her husband was in police custody awaiting charges.

Police said the incident happened in a parking lot, yet wouldn't confirm the exact location. The only parking lot in the 4300 block of North Broadway belongs to a Jewel-Osco store.
