ALBANY PARK — Chicago's Central Americans will celebrate their culture and heritage during Sunday's annual Central American Parade in Albany Park.
Sponsored by the Central American Cultural and Civic Society, the parade will feature floats, live music, folkloric dance groups and more, representing the countries of Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua and Costa Rica as they commemorate their independence from Spain.
Patty Wetli breaks down all the Lincoln Square events this weekend:
The parade kicks off at noon and will run along Montrose Avenue between California and Kimball avenues.
Parking and traffic restrictions will be enforced along the route and staging areas, beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday. Affected streets, in addition to Montrose, include California Avenue between Montrose and Berteau, and Kimball Avenue between Montrose and Sunnyside. Cars will be ticketed and towed.
During the parade, as well as its set-up and clean-up, the Montrose bus will be re-routed to Irving Park Road and the Kimball bus will be re-routed to Pulaski Road.
