BRIDGEPORT — Who says barbecue season is over?

Outdoor cooking, music and drinks are part of the action at a fundraising get-together for the upcoming "Bridged Art Walk" event.

The party is scheduled for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Crome Gallery, 3118 S. Morgan St.

Saturday's event is sort of an early, unofficial pre-party for Chicago Artists Month, a citywide arts program that invites artists to showcase their work at galleries, studio tours and performances.

Local artist and gallery owner Nikki Crome's idea — a mid-October "art walk" that bridges together the neighborhood's businesses and art galleries — was recently accepted as a city-sanctioned event.

To help pay for promotional material, Crome will raffle off some of her Chicago-themed art work. Entries will cost $5 per chance.

"I want people to walk away with something cool and artsy and inspire them to get involved," she said.

Now in its 19th year, the event's theme is "Crossing Borders" — "actual physical borders, or conceptual, genre or societal borders — can be liberating, creative, transgressive, stimulating, hazardous, affirmative or all of the above," organizers said.

Crome's art walk is scheduled for Oct. 18-19.
