IRVING PARK — Fair warning to procrastinators: Put off buying tickets to the Independence Park Beer Fest and it'll cost you ... an extra $10.

Admission to the fest, scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Sept. 13, is $40, with the price set to jump to $50 after Sept. 1. To buy tickets online, click here.

More than a dozen breweries are participating in the fest, where you can sample tasting-sized portions from Begyle, Pipeworks and Revolution among others. Grub, which costs extra, will be provided by various food trucks.

Proceeds will benefit the Independence Park playground renovation efforts.

A number of the city's playgrounds have received makeovers the last two years as part of the Chicago Plays! program, which picks up the tab as long as the community accepts certain limitations in terms of the equipment and surface options available.

The Independence Park Advisory Council has opted to fund its own playground with a rubberized surface and additional features that will make the playground, 3945 N. Springfield Ave., accessible to children with special needs.

The total price tag for the playground is estimated at $700,000, to be split among the advisory council, Chicago Park District and aldermanic funds. The council has raised more than $60,000 since 2011.
