LINCOLN SQUARE — The Lawrence Avenue Streetscape is entering its final phases, with street resurfacing underway between Western and Ravenswood avenues.

The top layer of asphalt has already been stripped in preparation of a new coat of paving, which will be laid the week of Aug. 25, with striping to follow.

The section of Lawrence between Ravenswood Avenue and Clark Street is slated for pavement in mid- to late October.

Bike rack installation should be complete by the end of August, and benches and chairs are coming in September.

The streetscape, announced in 2010, has been under construction since July 2013. Along with cosmetic enhancements, the project created wider sidewalks — making room for sidewalk cafes — and, more controversially, trimmed the road from four lanes to two between Western and Ashland avenues.
