COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Two South Side men are facing charges after they allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint while he stood Monday afternoon at a Metra station on West 115th Street in Morgan Park.

Prosecutors said one of the alleged gunmen committed the crime after violating court-ordered electronic monitoring last month.

Damarion Cooper, 20, and David Herron, 23, appeared in court Wednesday each facing one felony count of armed robbery with a firearm.

About 1:55 p.m. on Monday, Cooper and Herron approached a man waiting at the Metra station in the 11400 block of South Hale Avenue. Cooper allegedly pulled out a black revolver and took the man's backpack, which contained a laptop, while Herron took the man's cell phone, according to prosecutors and court documents.

The two fled to a nearby white sedan and drove away, prosecutors said.

An off-duty police officer witnessed the robbery and contacted police.

Hours later, police spotted a sedan matching the description of the one used in the robbery and pulled it over about 11 miles away in the 6000 block of South Stony Island Avenue in Woodlawn, according to a police report.

An officer spotted a laptop "in plain sight" inside the car. Three men in the car, including Cooper and Herron, were arrested. The car's driver was charged with a misdemeanor. Cooper and Herron were identified in a lineup the next day, according to prosecutors and the police report.

In court Wednesday, prosecutors said Cooper, also known as "Mario Cotton" according to court records, had been "AWOL" from electronic monitoring since July. Cooper, of the 300 block of West 100th Place, had been placed on electronic monitoring as part of his probation for an earlier case in which he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance.

Herron, of the 10200 block of South Charles Street, has been arrested at least twice since 2011 on criminal trespass and possession of marijuana charges, according to court records.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. set bail at $750,000 for both Cooper and Herron.
