LOGAN SQUARE — Provenance Food and Wine's Logan Square location will close Sept. 27, according to an announcement Wednesday by the retail grocery & wine shop owners.

The store at 2528 N. California Ave.  — specializing in small batch pasta, cheese, craft beer and spirits, among others — will see its lease expire this fall, according to a Facebook post from the group.

“We are feeling a combination of sadness, shock [and] surprise to announce that September 27th will be the last day of business in our Logan Square location. The building has been sold and the new owner is not renewing our lease, giving us 60 days to vacate,” the post read.

Provenance management debated the possibility of relocating in the neighborhood but decided to focus solely on its Lincoln Square location after the two-month notice and an upcoming holiday season made the cost of a new shop unreachable.

“The entire PFW staff want to say it's been a true pleasure getting to run a business in the neighborhood we live in, in a special part of Chicago, and to help the independent food movement,” the owners said in a message to online fans.

“It's been an honor to be a platform for many other small food & beverage entrepreneurs from Chicago, the Midwest and the world over. We feel blessed to at least be able to continue working with as many small producers as we can, producers who stand out for their integrity and passion for outstanding sustainable food and beverage production.”
