WOODLAWN — The Nike World Basketball Festival began taking over the parking lot at 63rd Street Beach Tuesday.

Crews were constructing two large temporary courts on Tuesday in preparation for the U.S. Basketball Men’s National Team and the clinics and camps that run Aug. 14-17.

The parking lot at 63rd Street Beach will be closed until Aug. 22.

Chicago native Anthony Davis, power forward on the New Orleans Pelicans and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, will participate in skills clinics during the festival.

The U.S. Basketball Men’s Team will refurbish neighborhood courts, visit schools and host clinics throughout the festival.

Chi-League is holding open registration for a 3-on-3 tournament all weekend.

The festival concludes with the U.S. men’s team taking on Brazil at 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at the United Center. Tickets start at $25 and are available here.

Maintenance workers were out Tuesday putting a fresh coat of paint on the railings of the beach house, and portions of the building will be closed up to and during the festival.

The beach will remain open throughout the festival.
