CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was shot Tuesday night in Lincoln Square.

Around 11:35 p.m., the boy was walking in the 4700 block of North Virginia Avenue when a dark-colored car drove up and someone fired from inside, police said. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in stable condition after being struck in his left leg, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

Tiffany Richter, 41, was walking through the block early Wednesday morning and said she was surprised by news of the shooting, but not scared.

"I don't feel concerned ... or unsafe. I've never felt unsafe. I always feel safe walking down my street," said Richter, adding that a friend recently called police after seeing a man open fire just a few blocks away.

"There's some thug activity, but not much. It's mostly young kids who, unfortunately, somehow got some guns and are making bad decisions," Richter said.

Jaia Mosby lives several blocks away but works in the neighborhood, which "never has shootings," she said. But recently the violence in surrounding neighborhoods has been spreading, she said.

"It's not normal for this neighborhood, and it's sad," Mosby said, adding that she's lived in communities with more violence, but "for the people over here, I could see it being very scary."
