UPTOWN — Want to learn how to make a guitar out of a cigar box? By the end of an eight-hour workshop scheduled Saturday at concert venue and community space Wilson Abbey, you just might reach that goal.

For $35, the workshop will walk participants through building a fretless slide guitar with one, two or three strings — or a one or two-string fretless bass guitar, according to the Wilson Abbey website. All materials will be provided.

The lessons will be taught by Christian blues musician Glenn Kaiser, the head of the Glenn Kaiser Band and the former leader of the Resurrection Band.

He is also an affiliate of Evangelical Christian commune Jesus People USA, which owns Wilson Abbey, 935 W. Wilson Ave.

For folks who want to hear how a cigar box guitar sounds live and in person, Kaiser will perform a solo blues concert at Wilson Abbey on Saturday night, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free for workshop participants but $5 for everyone else.
