GOLD COAST — Beloved fashion brand Uniqlo will open a Chicago location at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in the fall of 2015, the brand announced via Twitter Tuesday morning.

The location will be the second largest Uniqlo store in the U.S. after the Fifth Avenue flagship in New York City.

"Chicago is a global city that’s home to some of the finest cultural and sports institutions in the world, and we are thrilled to join the city’s rich landscape," Larry Meyer, CEO of UNIQLO USA, said in a release. "We look forward to bringing our innovative, high-quality apparel, world class customer service and modern, bright store aesthetic to the people of Chicago."

The Japanese retailer already has 21 U.S. locations in the Northeast and San Francisco Bay area. The Chicago store will be the first Uniqlo outpost in the Midwest.

Similar to Sweden-based H&M's aesthetic, Uniqlo's hallmarks are chic basics with simple, clean lines and understated color schemes. The new location positions Uniqlo next to similar U.K.-based retailer Topshop.

The store will hire employees locally, and has open positions posted on its online jobs board.

T-shirts at Uniqlo cost $10 to $20, and higher-end offerings from the brand include "heattech" ultralight down winterwear and celebrity collaborations, including a recent line with Pharrell Williams.
