HYDE PARK — Harrison Peters, Chicago Public Schools' network chief for Hyde Park-area elementary schools, has resigned after eight months, according to CPS officials.

Peters took the job in December amid suspicion about how long he would remain in the post during a period of many changes at Hyde Park schools because he was actively applying for jobs at other school districts.

Peters and his deputy, Eric Pruitt, have both taken jobs in the Houston Independent School District, CPS officials said.

The Houston district was not immediately able to confirm the hire of Peters or Pruitt.

Janice Jackson, principal of Westinghouse College Prep, will succeed Peters as network chief.

Jackson has served as principal at Westinghouse since 2009.

She earned her undergraduate degree in secondary education and master’s degree in history from Chicago State University. She earned a second master’s degree in leadership and administration and a doctorate of education in policy studies and urban school leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago
