COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man was ordered held without bail Saturday in connection with a shooting last month that left a 21-year-old man blind in one eye.

Shaquille Stitts, 19, of south suburban Calumet City, has been charged with aggravated battery for discharging a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon, officials said.

Prosecutors said Stitts shot a 21-year-old man as the man drove northbound in the 7900 block of South Escanaba Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood just before midnight on May 28.

The man was shot in his shoulder and left eye, said Assistant State's Attorny Mary Hain. The man is now blind in his left eye, Hain said.

Witnesses saw the gunman and another man flee the scene, and police were directed to the 8000 block of South Cottage Grove where they observed Stitts and another man toss a hundgun wrapped inside a towel out of a window, prosecutors said.

The gun police recovered, a semi-automatic blue steel handgun, was later linked to the shooting on Escanaba Avenue, prosecutors said.

Stitts was on parole for a 2012 conviction, prosecutors said, and Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampis ordered the 19-year-old held without bond.
