HYDE PARK — A woman crashed her car into Bret Harte Elementary School on Tuesday night.

A driver going west on 56th Street at 8:10 p.m. struck a retaining wall on the sidewalk next to the school at 1556 E. 56th St.

Police on the scene said no one was injured and that it was a “fender bender.”

As of Tuesday evening, no charges were filed against the driver.

The crash is the second time in three months a driver has crashed into the school.

On April 24, the school’s sign and fence were destroyed after a police chase ended with a driver crashing his car into the school.

“It’s another indication of why a stop light would be a good idea,” said Louise McCurry, president of the advisory council for Jackson Park, which starts across from the school at 56th Street.
