COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A drunk suburban man intent on getting into Wrigley Field during a game wound up in a holding cell instead of the stands after he assaulted security guards, prosecutors said.

Matthew Kania, 20, of Wheeling, showed up intoxicated at the gate Wednesday for a game with the Cincinnati Reds, prosecutors said. Allegedly too drunk for the game, Kania was ordered by security guards to leave.

Instead, the young man hopped a fence leading and tried to sneak into the Captain Morgan Club, which is attached to Wrigley Field, according to a police report.

The Captain Morgan Club security manager arrived to escort Kania out of the bar, but Kania grabbed his legs, causing the security manager to fall and hit both of his elbows on the concrete, according to the police report.

Chicago police arrived and transported Kania to the Town Hall District Station, where he continued making a scene, according to the report.

When officers found Kania banging on the window of the holding cell, they "tried to secure the subject away from the window." Kania then went into a fetal position and started kicking.

In all, Kania is charged with three counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of resisting arrest and one count of criminal trespass for refusing to leave Wrigley Field, according to court records.

Cook County Judge James Brown set Kania's bail at $25,000 Friday when he appeared briefly in court.
