CHICAGO — A man and a woman were wounded in a drive-by shooting Thursday evening on the border of the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

About 6:13 p.m., the woman, 21, and the man, 53, were inside a building in the 2500 block of East 79th Street when shot were fired from a passing car, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman.

The gunman was inside a gray, four-door sedan full of people, Pacheco said. After the shooting, the sedan fled the scene.

The 53-year-old man was shot in his right hip and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition stabilized, police said.

The 21-year-old woman was shot in her right leg and was taken to South Shore Hospital where her condition stabilized.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of Thursday night. East 79th Street divides the city's South Chicago neighborhood and the South Shore neighborhood.
