CHICAGO — A 21-year-old West Side man is charged with two felonies after allegedly firing a gun near a North Lawndale elementary school last month.

Aluntae Lindsey, of the 1800 block of South Hamlin Avenue, was charged with two felonies — aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm near a school.

Lindsey allegedly shot an 18-year-old man in the chest on May 29, seriously wounding him. The shooting took place in the 1600 block of South Avers Avenue, right outside Penn Elementary School, causing officials to lock the school down.

The gunshots rang out about 3 p.m. when parents arrived to pick up their children.

"They were banging on the door saying, 'Don't let the kids out! Don't let the kids out! They're shooting,'" said parent Katrina Sparks.

Lindsey was due in court Thursday.
