MAYFAIR — Mural, mural on the wall, which is the fairest design of them all?

North Mayfair residents are heading to the polls to choose from among three artists vying to have their mural design selected to cover the east wall of a Union Pacific underpass at 4700 N. Cicero Ave. Online voting is open through Monday.

The rules of the viaduct design contest — sponsored by the North Mayfair Improvement Association and Arts Alive Chicagospecified that submissions should incorporate the area's iconic bungalow architecture as well as depict the neighborhood's lush green spaces in a "bold and dynamic eruption of color."

The finalists are:

"Neighborhood Elevation," by Anthony Lewellen, known for his street art and graffiti. Lewellen's design features a variety of bungalow styles floating among trees and clouds.

"North Mayfair Flare," by Jennifer Kernica, an art director and illustrator who recently collaborated on a mural in Rogers Park. Kernica's design represents bungalow roofs as individual faces.

"Floral Jigsaw," by Tony Passero (also known as Tony Sparrow), who's created a number of murals on the Northwest Side, including "Hepcat," which covers the west wall of the Cicero underpass. Passero's design plays on the theme "neighborhood in a garden."

The Viaduct Improvement Committee will announce the winner of the competition by July 4.
