HYDE PARK — Exchange Ideas, a neighborhood forum, is restarting at Chef Sara’s Cafe for South Shore residents to get together to talk about ways to improve their neighborhood.

The forum was a regular event until last year, and will be again starting at 1 p.m. Sunday at the restaurant at 7201 S. Exchange Ave.

“We believe that there are a wealth of resources and talented individuals in the South Shore area, and there needs to be an opportunity for those individuals to share, connect, learn from and with each other,” said Billy Powers, an organizer of the monthly event.

The event allows neighbors, experts and public officials to hash out ideas in more depth than is typically allowed during the public comment session of a public meeting.

“We also bring in experts to help deepen our understanding of the issues we're confronting,” Powers said.

The group is hosing state Sen. Jacqueline Collins (D-Chicago) because, said Powers, she "has a long record of legislating on issues such predatory lending and housing policy."

Powers said Collins was invited to talk about the power and resources at the state level that can be leveraged to help South Shore.

The event is free and open to the public.
