CHICAGO — Two Bridgeport men are charged with arson after one of the garbage can fires they lit spread to a residential garage early Tuesday in the neighborhood, prosecutors said.
Rafael Delgado, 39, of the 800 block of West 33rd Street, and Anthony Catala, 19, of the 3200 block of South Union Avenue, were arrested and charged with a felony count of arson, according to police.
They ran down an alley using lighter fluid to torch four garbage cans between Union and Emerald streets at about 1:40 a.m., prosecutors said. One of the garbage fires spread to a garage in the 2900 block of South Canal Street.
Delgado, whose birthday is Friday, has previous convictions for burglary and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
He was arrested with a spotlight and a baseball bat that were reported stolen from the garage.
Both men were ordered held on $500,000 bail Wednesday when they appeared briefly in court.
