UPTOWN — June is food drive month for Inspiration Corporation, the social service agency behind the Inspiration Kitchens restaurants on the North and South sides.

Stocking Inspiration's food pantries cost $16,000 this year, an increase of 43 percent compared to last year because of rising demand and rising food costs, according to the organization, which hopes the food drive will soften the financial blow.

Inspiration is collecting non-perishable food items at Inspiration Kitchens locations in Uptown, 4715 N. Sheridan Rd., and Garfield Park, 3504 W. Lake St.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Living Room Cafe in Woodlawn, 806 E. 64th St., and 4554 N. Broadway, Inspiration headquarters in Uptown and the site of Inspiration Cafe.

Both Inspiration Cafe and the Living Room Cafe provide homeless and low-income people with restaurant-style meals prepared by volunteers, and operate food pantries open to clients and community members.

The Inspiration website says supporters can also stop this month at Ovie Bar & Grill, 120 N. Canal St., and order a  the soft shell crab sandwich for $15, with a portion of the funds going back to Inspiration.
