CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was killed in a North Side drive-by shooting in Irving Park Saturday evening, police said.

The boy, identified as Nicholas Keener, of the 4800 block of North Hamlin Avenue, was with a group of friends in the 3800 block of West St. Louis Avenue, when a light-colored vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots striking the teenager in his chest, said authorities said.

Nicholas was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said. The boy's name was being withheld pending notification of his family.

No one is in custody for the shooting and Area North Detectives are investigating, Greer said.
