Three Killed, Three Wounded In Overnight Violence

CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy is among two people shot and killed since Thursday evening, and at least three others were injured in shootings across the city's South Side.

The 14-year-old boy, identified as Kevin Diaz, was fatally shot about 10:17 p.m. Thursday in Marquette Park.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired and found the boy in the 6400 block of South Francisco Avenue. Diaz, who lived just two blocks north, had been shot repeatedly and died on the scene. Police believe the shooting may have been gang-related.

About 8:45 p.m., a 20-year-old man was killed in the 10800 block of South Indiana Avenue in the city's Roseland neighborhood. The 20-year-old was shot in his hip and shoulder and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:47 p.m.

He was identified as Brian McKinney, of the 7300 block of South Perry Avenue, according to the medical examiner's office

In non-fatal shootings:

About 8 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in Marquette Park. The teen was walking in the 6300 block of South Artesian Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

The teen was shot in his ankle and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where his condition stabilized, Gaines said. The shootings happened less than a mile from where Diaz was killed.

A half hour earlier, a man was shot in his leg in South Deering. About 7:30 p.m., the 20-year-old man was shot in the 9800 block of South Yates Avenue, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The man was walking southbound on Yates Avenue when someone inside a passing black Chevy Impala opened fire, hitting the man, police said. The 20-year-old was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

About 6 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in an alley near the 12400 block of South Union Avenue in West Pullman. The 20-year-old was shot in his lower back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Also overnight, a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death in Bronzeville.
