CHICAGO — A 20-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy who was fatally shot in Woodlawn in January.

Daryl Lee, of the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue, was scheduled to appear in bond court Saturday in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Marquise Harris.

Harris was shot in the chest about 11 p.m. on January 11. Police initially said the teen was shot during a fight at a party in the building where he lived in the 6200 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue.

But Harris' mother said her son was never at a party. She said the teen was shot after a neighbor got into a fight with Harris' cousin. The 16-year-old and his brother intervened, and the neighbor left and returned with a gun, fatally shooting Harris in the chest.

Harris was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police later identified Daryl Lee as the shooter who killed the teen. Lee was arrested in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday on three warrants, including one for Harris' murder.

Police also had warrants for Lee's arrest stemming from charges of reckless conduct and possession of a controlled substance.

Lee was brought to Chicago, where he was scheduled to appear in bond court Saturday afternoon.
