NORTH PARK — With "quite a bit of sadness," Adam Parrott-Sheffer announced he's resigning as principal of Peterson Elementary.

Staff and members of the Local School Council were informed of his decision on Friday, and a letter was sent home to families on Monday.

After four years at Peterson's helm, Parrott-Sheffer is leaving to become principal at Anne M. Jeans School in suburban Willowbrook.

"The decision to make this move at this time is based upon some personal and professional changes which have occurred over the past year that make AMJES a great fit between the needs of that community and my leadership interests and abilities," Parrott-Sheffer told DNAinfo Chicago via email.

"This decision is also due to my strong belief that Peterson school is equipped with the teacher leaders and committed families to be able to continue to grow into a world-class educational facility with a change of leadership," he continued.

Peterson, 5510 N. Christiana Ave., is a neighborhood school with an "excellent" performance rating from CPS.
