ROGERS PARK — Rogers Park's Bullhead Cantina is growing.
The taco joint on Morse Avenue opened a whiskey-only bar this week in the rear of its space at 1406 W. Morse Ave.
Now, owners Francisco "Paco" Ruiz has even bigger plans in mind: opening a rooftop patio.
If given the OK by his architect, and eventually the city, the patio would be the first of its kind among the neighborhood's restaurants and bars.
No where else in Rogers Park can diners and drinkers enjoy a rooftop meal and drink.
"I'll do it for the neighborhood," Ruiz said Monday night.
He said the sidewalks surrounding the restaurant at Morse and Glenwood avenues were too narrow for a sidewalk cafe.
"I don't have any outdoor seating, so I said, 'Let's go on top,' " he said.
Ruiz opened Bullhead, which has an original location in Humboldt Park, in February. He said business has been steady since then.
The planned rooftop patio would wrap around the eastern and southern edges of the single-story building, he said. A stairway from the ground floor would also be built to accommodate the patio, expected to sit about 50 people.
He said he was meeting with an architect soon to discuss the plans — and to find out whether the roof can hold the necessary weight.
The new whiskey lounge features about 50 whiskeys and features a "relaxing, cozier environment," said Ruiz.
