ROGERS PARK — Jewel-Osco will begin hiring employees Tuesday ahead of a "mid-summer" opening of its new Rogers Park store, Ald. Joe Moore (49th) said.

The grocer announced it would be taking over the former Dominick's last month.

Moore said in an email to constituents Monday morning that the store, at 1764 W. Howard St., had been undergoing "extensive" interior renovations.

Moore said Jewel executives had assured him former Dominick's employees would be given priority in hiring for the new store.

Officials will accept applications at the store this week 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, Moore said. Next week, officials will accept applications during the same times on May 6, 7 and 9.

Jewel spokeswoman Allison Sperling said the company will be hiring about 300 employees for the Rogers Park location. She said an official grand opening date for the store had yet to be set.
