ROGERS PARK — Jewel-Osco announced Thursday it would take over two former Dominick's grocery stores in the city in Rogers Park and Old Town.

The new Jewel stores will be at 1763 W. Howard St. and 424 W. Division St.

The supermarket chain said it would also acquire former Dominick's at three locations in the suburbs, including in Merionette Park.

Ald. Joe Moore (49th) said the grocer had been in negotiations since last month to take over the location on Howard Street.

"In my opinion, this is the best possible scenario we could come up with," Moore said Thursday. "Like Dominick’s, Jewel serves people from all different walks of life and all different incomes — and that’s a perfect marriage with my very diverse community."

Moore was appointed to the mayor's task force created to find replacements for the city's 15 shuttered Dominick's.

Jewel already has taken over locations at 2550 N. Clybourn Ave. and 1340 S. Canal St.

Now, with Jewel's announcement, only one former Dominick's remains unclaimed: at 2101 E. 71st St.

Jewel spokeswoman Allison Sperling said the opening dates for the new stores had not yet been determined.

The suburban stores Jewel plans to take over are at 3243 W. 115th St. in Merrionette Park; 800 Northwest Highway in Fox River Grove and 345 S. Rand Road in Lake Zurich.
