CHICAGO — Police are warning Northwest Side residents to be on the lookout after a man tried to kidnap a woman in Albany Park Thursday.

About 9:20 a.m. Thursday, a woman was walking near the corner of North Karlov Avenue and West Ainslie Street when a man got out a white van and approached her, police said.

The man ripped the woman's clothes, grabbed her and began pulling her towards the van saying "come in my car," according to a police statement.

The woman pulled out a cell phone, and when the man tried to bat the phone from her hand, she was able to run away.

The man was described as white, with gray and brown hair, a gray beard and trimmed mustache. He is between the ages of 45 and 55 years old and is about 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, police said.

The man's van had a ladder on its roof secured by yellow rope, police said. Anyone with information can contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8200.
