CHICAGO — Eight children and one adult were hospitalized after a Megabus sideswiped a day care van on the Dan Ryan Expy. in Fuller Park Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred in the outbound lanes of the expressway near 51st Street sometime before 7:20 a.m., according to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.

A car struck a median, bounced off and hit the day care van, leaving it stuck in the road, Illinois State Police Sgt. Stokes said. The Megabus then sideswiped the van, according to Stokes.

Three kids were taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition, three more children were taken to Mercy Hospital in good condition and two kids were taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition, Hernandez said. Their ages were not immediately available.

According to Stokes, the kids were taken to hospitals as a precaution and did not appear to be injured.

An adult was taken to St Bernard Hospital in good condition, Hernandez said.

The bus, which was carrying 27 people, was on its way from Chicago to Detroit, according to a statement from Megabus.

No injuries were reported onboard, according to Megabus, and a replacement bus was dispatched to take riders to Detroit.

The crash is under investigation, state police said.
