LINCOLN SQUARE — These days, even home mix masters can elevate their cocktail game beyond the orange-juice-and-vodka combo with a quick lesson on pairing spices with booze.

To take the fear out of cardamom — which goes well with whiskey by the way — Savory Spice Shop and The Grafton are teaming up on a spices-and-cocktails workshop scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Feb. 27.

The class kicks off at Savory, 4753 N. Lincoln Ave., with a discussion of which herbs and spices match up best with which liquors. Staff will then demonstrate how to flavor simple syrups that can be used to give cocktails a kick.

A quick change of scenery will take workshop participants to The Grafton, 4530 N. Lincoln Ave., where a flight of mini-cocktails awaits, created with the very syrups concocted at the spice shop.

Tickets for the class are $25 and can be bought online; space is limited.
