CHICAGO — A woman was under the influence of alcohol when the minivan she was driving without a license collided with another car in Fuller Park Monday and left seven people hurt, including three children, authorities said.

Robin Sewell, 29, of the 5000 block of South Throop Street, was charged with misdemeanor DUI and ticketed for not having insurance, disobeying a traffic light and driving without a license.

Police initially said Sewell was driving a minivan west on 43rd Street when she missed a traffic light and hit a car traveling north on LaSalle Street. The crash happened about 1:35 a.m. Monday.

Three children were sent to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition, authorities said Monday.

Sewell and the 28-year-old driver of the other car were initially taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Three other adults were taken to Stroger Hospital, two in critical condition.

Police said injuries were not life-threatening. Sewell was the only one in the minivan, and the others injured were in the other car, according to police.

Sewell is expected to appear in traffic court in March, cops said.
