HYDE PARK — A man forced a woman at knifepoint to perform a sexual act Tuesday in the 6100 block of South University Avenue, according to a security alert issued by the University of Chicago.

At 12:10 p.m. a man showed the woman a knife and forced her into the gangway of an apartment building where he demanded she perform a sexual act, according to the alert.

University of Chicago Police said they were informed of the incident, but it was being investigated by the Chicago Police Department and they referred questions to Chicago Police.

Police were not immediately able to provide a description of the suspect.

According to the alert, the man also stole $35 from the woman before fleeing eastbound on 62nd Street.

Though the event occurred at the edge of the university campus, the woman was not associated with university, according to the alert.
